Mining company remains silent in senate uranium deal
DALY CITY, FL–
The American Mineralogist will publish the findings of its investigation this week regarding what led to the decision to shut down the Dolly Mountain mining facility in Florida in 2000.
According to investigative journalists Jim Hall and Jim Baker, the Dolly Mountain uranium mining project was a multi-billion dollar operation and the only mine located on the west coast of the continent that would allow for an export of UHMW and uranium that could be used as fuel in the production of nuclear weapons. They point to the project’s uranium stockpiles of over 2,000 tons of UHMW at various locations in Nevada, West Virginia, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Montana, as well as a stockpile of up to 400 kilograms of uranium per year at the site. The report, ”US mining giant Dolly Mountain mines uranium reserves,” is based primarily on public documents, interviews with US Energy Department officials, the mining company’s internal materials and a confidential contract signed by the US subsidiary of Dolly Mountain in 2000.
”The Dolly Mountain mine in Flori우리카지노da, the only UHMW producing mine in the U.S., was one of the largest and most sensitive, and could theoretically support U.S. military or intelligence operations with the possibility of triggering a nuclear war. It was also the only mine in the world to mine the entire U.S.-Canadian border,” Baker said. ”The US Government had a financial interest in keeping the project quiet and then, in 2000, to ensure that, as a condition of the deal, Dolly Mountain would agree to shut down the company’s mines in the region, which made it an attractive choice for a number of defense and intelligence agencies.”
In the course of the investigation, Hall and Baker discovered that a $60 million contract, known as ”Mining Agreement 1-A,” made the controversial decision to eliminate the Dolly Mountain mine without a public hearing, and that the US subsidiary of Dolly Mountain never received approval from the US Government for the mining operation to stay operational.
The study was conducted as part of the Investigative Projekt with former investigative journalist Jim Hall, and the Dolly Mountain uranium mining plant closed November 28, 2000 after the US 바카라사이트subsidiary of Dolly Mountain abandoned the operation. Hall바카라사이트 and Baker concluded that ”there was no reason to justify a closed mining agreement,” and the US subsidiary should have received approval for the operation to be reopened. The report further stated, ”The failure to produce and renew thi
